Carpentry & Joinery by S.T. Aveling - Restored - Addendum by Justin Day: With Original & Practical Instructions

A pound of wool can be spun into a thread ninety-five miles long, one pound of spiders’ thread will encircle the globe, and one thread of thought is sometimes spun out into miles of letterpress.
The aim of the writer(s) of these pages has not been to expand but to condense a large subject into as few pages as possible. Nothing is so difficult to teach by books as manual dexterity, and to make as intelligible the use of carpenters’ tools is not altogether easy.
These pages may be called the first chapter of that most useful and interesting branch of mechanical art called “Carpentry and Joinery;” and the writer(s) have endeavoured to make them clear and simple, and as free as possible from unnecessary technicality.

As restorer and custodian of the knowledge captured within these pages, my hope is that the ageless mechanics of hand-tooling carpentry and joinery practices are carried forward by following makers for another 150-odd years using the applied fundaments of woodworking that both S.T. Aveling and I present to you the reader in this book.
