This fascinating French map of the Mexican Republic was published in Paris by Thierry Freres around 1843. Apart from showing the constituent components of the former Spanish territories, the image is notable for its inclusion of the Republic of Texas, which had declared independence from Mexico in 1836. Elsewhere in the image, several Native American tribes are labeled, topography is depicted in hachure, and various place names and geographic features are labeled. In the last category, several mythical lakes and rivers across the territory of New California are of particular interest. The interior of the United States remains relatively empty, with the exception of a handful of rivers and scattered cities. Sheet Height (in) 10.75 Condition A- Light to moderate soiling confined to the lower left margin that barely extends into the image. The color, applied later, is a bit gaudy, but overall the map remains in very good condition. Seller Inventory # 2672
