A detailed report on the founding, short-lived existence, and closing of Casa de la Raza, an alternative public school for Chicano/a students that was part of the federally-funded Experimental Schools Program in Berkeley. Founded in 1971, the school served the "instructional, cultural, and survival needs of Raza children," but was accused of segregatory practices and of being "racially exclusive." The Berkeley School Board accused the school of violating the 1964 Civil Rights Act, and concerend over its own funding status, closed the school.
