The early reformers who first translated the Bible into English were undoubtedly courageous in their duty. John Wycliffe, John Purvey and others - who gave us the John Wycliffe Bible - and William Tyndale were brave unto death. Tyndale and probably Purvey suffered martyrdom to successfully give us the Word of God in English. Yet they were only men, subject to their own sensitivities and problems. The author has carefully studied their translations, comparing available copies of their New Testaments with the Latin Vulgate New Testament (from which the Wycliffe group worked) and with the Greek text (from which Tyndale worked). His exhaustive examination of their translations has discovered flaws; this book provides a plain consideration of the translator's alterations as well as the underlying motives.
