The Case of the Unknown Baby

What a tale! Set against a backdrop of confusion in the aftermath of the 1989 Earthquake in Newcastle, Australia —an unknown baby girl is found by Veronica, a lapsed foster carer. “Ronnie” is pressed into service to look after the infantwho hijacks her heart, along with everyone who meets her.

Eerily, it almost seems like Ronnie was destined for the task. She cannot shake a feeling of responsibility for and a growing connection to the mysterious missing mother and hatches a plan to reach out. Public opinion is polarised, but community support proves to be integral to the reunification and creation of family.

The Case of the Unknown Baby holds in tension both human frailty and decency. Using poetry, letters and articles to advance the story and give character clues, the story ends with a twist and a most pleasurable symmetry.
