About the Author

Russell G. Carpenter, Ph.D. is the founding Director of the Noel Studio for Academic Creativity and Assistant Professor of English at Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond, KY. The Noel Studio at EKU is a nationally unique mission and vision that emphasizes collaborative and creative approaches to developing student communication through integrating written, oral (and aural), electronic, and visual modes and media. This new space will serve as the center for innovative community literacy initiatives. Russell received a Ph.D. in Texts & Technology at the University of Central Florida where he also earned B.A. and M.A. degrees in English. While at UCF, Carpenter contributed to Writers on the Move, a community literacy project that established pilot writing centers at area schools with Terry Thaxton. Russell received the 2010 Von Till award from the National Communication Associations Communication Center division for research, scholarship, and innovation in communication centers.
