Reviews
This book is to mail-order companies what the Encyclopedia of Associations is to organizations. For some ten years, biannual revisions of this work have been the indispensable guide for retail (and wholesale) research. Here you will find catalogs related to astrology, belly dancing, feathers, and incense as well as those dealing with butter churns, gingerbread houses, septic tanks, and trunk repair. Around 14,000 catalog companies (2000 new to this edition) are grouped under more than 800 alphabetically arranged categories (200 more than the last edition) and are indexed by name as well. Also, many categories have been expanded. For example, "tattooing" is now "tattooing supplies and body jewelry," and "sheds" is now "sheds, barns and other buildings." As in previous editions, Palder offers some basic advice about ordering from catalogs and also invites readers to inform him when requests for catalogs are returned as undeliverable (he continually updates listing information and may have a more recent address). This is one of those rare resources?a reference book that's fun to browse and helpful to use?that belongs in all libraries.?Carolyn M. Mulac, Chicago P.L.
