Contemporary reddish-brown half morocco, marbled boards, top edges gilt. 2687 items, catalogued by Joseph Sabin at the collector's home in Chicago and sold in New York: "Since the Rice collection was well known, such important Americana collectors as William Menzies, Edward Asay, and George Brinley were on hand to vie for rarities. With a return of more than $42,000, the Rice sale was one of the most profitable held in the United States up to that time" (Dickinson, 'Dictionary of American Book Collectors', p. 268). Some rubbing to binding.
