Catalogue of the Library of Rev. Thomas Prince, Former Pastor of Old South Church

Catalogue Of The Library Of Rev. Thomas Prince, Former Pastor Of Old South Church — This catalog records the library gathered by Rev. Thomas Prince and bequeathed to the Old South Church and Society in Boston. Originating as a mid-19th-century bibliographic list of Prince’s New England Library, the volume presents an extensive, unindexed roll of books, pamphlets, maps, and manuscripts compiled from the 16th to the 18th centuries. The entries are arranged by format (Duodecimos, Quartos, Octavos, Folios) and supplemented by a SELECT Catalogue OF HISTORICAL WORKS relating to the Old South Church and Society. The works catalogued reflect Puritan and early American scholarship: sermons, theological tracts, polemics, and liturgical writings by Mather, Cotton, Owen, Beza, Calvin, and many others, with texts in Latin, Greek, Hebrew, French, Dutch, and English. The catalog records Prince’s bequest to Old South Church and the organizational framework for access by the church and its members, offering a valuable window into colonial religious literature and bibliographic practice.
