First Book Club Edition. Original black cloth fine, no writing or bookplates, book club indentation at rear right corner of back cover. In very good dust jacket with no price, but with "Book-of-the-Month Club Selection" at top of front flap, Salinger's photograph on rear panel. Laid in is the 4p. leaflet, "A Report by Clifton Fadiman" from the Club. The leaflet has two quotes from the novel and two illustrations. Salinger was upset with the illustrations because he insisted on no illustrations based on the book. The leaflet is quite scarce. This edition printed at the Kingsport Press.
