Strong copy with moderate wear, forward tilt to spine, lightly tone interior, and a previous owner's name inside on front paste down. Dust jacket (not price clipped, $1.95), in Brodart protective sleeve, is heavily worn and with toning and surface staining. No date, appears to be 1950s. Seller Inventory # ABE-1728298726337

While the last date on copyright page is 1951, the first Modern Library edition was printed in 1958. Book is bound in bright red cloth; type 8 binding with Kent gray and white endpapers. Original first issue DJ with $1.65 price intact on flap, and 383 titles listed on DJ verso. Book is fine; bright tight and clean. Binding and hinges are sound. This book comes from the library of author Richard Gebs, with his personal vintage woodcut black and white bookplate on front pastedown, and his name written faintly, (small) on the edge of the title page. Original DJ is bright and attractive, and in near fine condition. DJ's only flaw is a tiny scuff on rear; otherwise fine. A most attractive, tight and clean First Modern Library edition, stated, in original first state DJ. NF/NF. Seller Inventory # 003692
