Catching the Departed

A compelling story of imperialistic treachery and greed cast on a broad canvas stretching from Capitol Hill and Wall Street to Pakistan and India, this portrayal of manipulation and dominion over the world’s energy resources is sensitively told in intimate human terms. A French journalist found dead in a Karachi hotel leaves behind a young American widow, Cassandra, who takes a foreign-service post in New Delhi in an attempt to bury his ghost. Thrown into the heart of geopolitical struggles and set against a backdrop of nuclear detonations, embassy bombings, and missile strikes on terrorist camps, Cassandra begins an affair with a young Pakistani BBC journalist that launches her into a dangerous, suspense-filled journey that revisits the forming of Al Qaeda and glimpses into a horrific future event in 2001.
