1848. Second Edition. 336 pages. No dust jacket. This is an ex-Library book. Blue cloth with gilt titles and decoration to front and spine. Volume II. Book has been rebacked by library with a modern spine and endpapers. With expected library inserts, stamps and inscriptions. Includes B&W illustrated plates; unclear if these are complete. Plate 17 detached but present. Author's printed addendum tipped to p303. Pages have slight foxing, tanning and minor thumbing. Slight gutter cracking. Binding is firm. Plates have some heavier foxing. Faint creases to some pages. Sporadic thumbing. Boards have some edge wear, with pronounced bumping and fraying to corners. Rather scratched, rubbed and marked overall. Some bubbling and faint pale marks. Uneven sunning. Boards are slightly bowed. Book has a slight forward lean. Gilt is bright. Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: No DJ. First Edition. Both volumes are professionally rebound in black cloth with gilt lettering on spines. The gilt decorations on the original covers have both been preserved and attached to the front of each book. The gilt is slightly tarnsihed, but shows minimal wear. Frontis and illustrations # 2-20 are present. The frontis appears to be the #1 illustration. Mild toning and foxing of pages, but otherwise clean. There is a tipped-in author's note following page 302 of volume 2. Vol. I is 296 pp, Vol 2 is 336 pp. Very presentable copies. ID# L1. Seller Inventory # 013409
