Cattle Ships: Being The Fifth Chapter Of Mr. Plimsoll's Second Appeal For Our Seamen

""Cattle Ships"" is a book written by Samuel Plimsoll, which is the fifth chapter of his second appeal for the safety of seamen. The book focuses on the transportation of cattle by sea and the poor conditions that the animals were subjected to during the late 19th century. Plimsoll, who was a British politician and social reformer, was a strong advocate for the welfare of seamen and animals. In this book, he provides a detailed account of the inhumane treatment of cattle on board ships, which often resulted in the death of many animals. Plimsoll also highlights the dangers that seamen faced while transporting cattle, such as overcrowding, unseaworthy vessels, and unscrupulous ship owners. The book is a powerful critique of the shipping industry and calls for urgent reforms to protect both seamen and animals. It is an important historical document that sheds light on the conditions of the shipping industry during the late 19th century and the efforts of social reformers like Plimsoll to bring about change. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
