This book offers a variety of perspectives on certain key issues in science education from leading educationalists across the world. 'Setting the Scene' discusses the purposes and framework of science education. The book then turns to the theme of 'Reflecting on Practice' in science teaching at all levels and presents several models of reflection as well as a useful approach to improving practice. The next part, 'Science for All', deals with the delivery of a science curriculum that is appropriate for all pupils - not just for the academically able, but also for those for whom science has not in the past been a major part of the school curriculum. It considers recent developments in further and higher education in science including the teaching of science to adults through distance learning. Finally, the book focuses on 'Images and Understanding', and introduces the debates surrounding the public understanding of science and considers the image of science and how it has changed over recent decades.
This is the companion volume to Teaching, Learning and Assessment in Science Education edited by Dee Edwards, Eileen Scanlon and Dick West.
