Booklist, Starred ReviewI was born by the river in a little tent. Oh, and just like the river, I've been a-runnin' ever since. It's been a long, a long time coming, but I know a change gonna come. Oh yes, it will. The immortal lyrics of Sam Cooke's inspiring civil rights anthem are among the most powerful in music history. Written as an ode to the struggles and joy of Black Americans living under the oppression of Jim Crow, "A Change Is Gonna Come" became a rallying cry for justice and equality when it was shared in 1964.
