pp.xii+140 (last blank). 28cm. Hard cover in the original blind stamped cloth with gilt title to upper cover. edge and corner wear and at head and foot of the spine. First few pages loose but the threads still holding. Names in ink at head of title page 'The Rev. J.M. St. Clere Raymond -- to Mts Sturt, Munt Farm, Belchamp Walter.' (The Reverend Raymond was a member of the family which held the lordship of the manor of Belchamp Walter . in Essex, UK . (see Domesday Book) . and he extended the manor house in 1871). Throughout the book many words and syllables are underlined in ink for emphasis and there a few notes and other marks in ink or pencil. Music at the head of each page, with the source, the chants beneath. The volume has been much used presumably at the church in Belchamp Walter. 4 page flyer for a new Life of Handel tipped in at half title. Not dated, but preface dated 1850 and this appears to be the first publication.
