'A Charade of Innocence and Vice'

'A Charade of Innocence and Vice': Hollywood Gothic films of the 1940s offers a sustained investigation of this important popular film cycle. This book identifies the film cycle and traces its lineage back to its origins in Charles Perrault's 'Bluebeard'. 'A Charade of Innocence and Vice' investigates cinematic reinventions of this violent fairy tale in high profile films including Alfred Hitchcock's 'Rebecca' and 'Suspicion', along with B film productions like Jacques Tourneur's 'I Walked With a Zombie'.

Dr Wendy Haslem publishes on the evolution of the Gothic from pre-cinema to new media. At the University of Melbourne, she teaches subjects on Film Noir and Cinema in the 1950s within the Cinema Studies Program. She is also the coordinator of the MA in Cinema Management.
