Charlie Ward: Winning by His Grace (Role Model Series)

Twenty-seven-year-old Charlie Ward holds the distinction of being the first Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback in the NBA. During his college years at Florida State University, he excelled both on the football field and the basketball court, winning numerous awards. During those years Charlie was also developing a deeper commitment to Christ, sharing the power of God's love with friends, teammates and fans, and giving God credit for all his sports accomplishments. Sports and family played important roles in Charlie's life; Charlie's parents were both teachers who stressed the value of education and commitment to excellence. Divided into four sections (quarters) and told through first-person narrative, Ward's account explains his philosophy of hard work and teamwork, his views on the importance of strong family ties and his overriding passion to be at his best for God in every situation. Supplemented by a wealth of family photos and numerous Bible verses in bold type (to emphasize the spiritual lesson applicable to each situation), Ward's message is clear: Living life with a winning attitude is the best way for young people to give their best to God?and God will give back the best life He has to offer them. Ages 8-12.
