Charting the Patriarchs : The Importance of Ages As Numbers?

Shall we, as the Creationists do, take them literally, or shall we embarrass them, and reveal the secret? Can weak minds accept a relationship between the numbers that is real, and represents somewhat advanced knowledge of the universe? Or shall they be permitted to retain the delusion of a Genesis mythology which is to be taken literally?
