Chasing Chaos, Fade to Grey: My Emergency Services Journey

From the author of Shades of Grey Behind the Badge

While Shades of Grey Behind the Badge chronicled Grey La Certe's career in law enforcement, Chasing Chaos, Fade to Grey tells the parallel story of a lifetime spent in emergency services.

Beginning with a childhood fascination that led to volunteer search and rescue, this memoir follows his journey through emergency communications, disaster relief, and eventually a career in emergency management. Along the way, readers experience major disasters, large-scale exercises, emergency operations, and the evolution of a profession through the eyes of someone who lived it.

More than a career retrospective, Chasing Chaos, Fade to Grey explores a lifelong pursuit of competence, purpose, and the next challenge. Through personal stories, humor, historical perspective, and hard-earned lessons, Grey reveals not only what it was like to spend decades responding to emergencies, but also what happens when he finally turns the radio off and a life once defined by service gives way to something entirely different.

This is the story of a lifetime spent chasing chaos – and of discovering that the greatest challenge wasn't the next emergency, but building a life beyond the pursuit of it.
