Very scarce as a Polish translation of the work. Written by American author, Harriet Beecher Stowe, this influential novel is said to have laid the groundwork for the Civil War. As an abolitionist, Stowe wrote the novel to depict the reality of slavery. It had a profound impact on attitudes towards African Americans and slavery in the U.S. and is credited with helping fuel the abolitionist cause in the 1850s.Originally published in English is 1852, "Uncle Tom"s Cabin" was the second best-selling book of the 19th century, following the Bible. Illustrated with four full-page illustrations. Collated, complete. Bound in the publisher's original quarter cloth with pictorial boards. Externally, sound,with chipping causing some loss to the board extremities, heavier to the rear. A little rubbing to the spine head and tail. Light tide marks to front board. Internally, binding is a touch strained to the front of the work, although holding firm. Staples are slightly rusty. Pages are bright and clean, with marginal age toning. Good.
