Synopsis
The true story of one man's fight against greed, corruption, and insatiable ambition in small-town Ohio, Checkmate reveals why passion and integrity are rare in the corridors of swing-state politics. When Steve Kraus "reported for duty" in Erie County, Ohio, he had no idea he was wading into a corrupt and repugnant political scene. Still, he persevered. As an elected State Representative, his willingness to oppose one of the most feared men in politics and reveal the truth—even against his own party leaders at the highest levels—led to his being falsely accused and framed for a crime he never committed. Now, with his conviction in question and motions for a new trial before him, Kraus holds nothing back about the stunning events—the setup, false charges, and compromised verdict. From dirty politicking, to election tampering, to threats issued behind closed doors, Kraus tells all. Checkmate reveals the truth behind the headlines and gives you insider access to the real-life drama, and all the twists and turns that come to those who dare to pursue justice. Are you ready for the truth?
