Born into an English family, from 1879 to 1881 he collaborated with the chess section of the weekly Jamaica Family Journal. In the last years of his life, Mackenzie was preparing a book with a collection of his problems. Later it was published with the title Chess Lyrics: A Collection of Chess Problems by A. F. Mackenzie (New York, 1905).The work starts with various compositions, and with aspects of problem construction, including such subjects as complexity of two-movers compared with three-movers?etc., Size : 8vo., Volume : Two volumes. A fine copy and handsome example.
