Chicago Mountaineering Club Photo Collection--1940 Collection of 29 2.5 x 2.5-inch negative photographs. Most have good exposure, but a handful appear overexposed. Images shot during a climbing excursion with the quality reflecting likely an amateur photographer working in difficult settings. Overall, good condition. Negative collection found in an envelope with a Chicago Park District return address and logo, with "Chicago Mountaineer Club June 1940 _______ Oregon" on front. The Chicago Mountaineering Club was founded in 1940. The club continues to function today. According to their website, "Since 1940, Chicago Mountaineering Club members have been putting up new routes across the globe. You'll find our footprints on U.S. alpine routes in the Tetons, the Cascades, big walls in Yosemite, and the vast mountain ranges of Alaska, but also S. America, Europe, and Asia." We were unable to find any contemporary reports of the club's 1940 outings and hesitate to guess exact location of this trip. The envelope 'might' state Oregon on the front, or more accurately, "Orgon". Photos show club members ascending a variety of routes wearing everyday clothing. Please note this collection are all film negatives. We have digitally converted them into positives, but you will only receive the film negatives.
