Add to basketTHE CHILDREN OF THE ABBEY A TALE BY REGINA MARIA ROCHE 3 VOLUMES 1826. GOOD. I am pleased to be able to offer a three-volume vintage copy of: The Children of the Abbey by Regina Maria Roche. I found some information about the author on Wikipedia, a bit of which I am adding here. This book characterized as a sentimental Gothic romance was apparently one of the most popular novels of its time (1790s). The author Regina Maria Dalton was born in Waterford, Ireland in 1764. The family moved to Dublin and after marrying Ambrose Roche, she moved with him to England. These three small books are bound in marbled boards with quarter spines and reinforced corners in leather with gilt titles on the spine. They measure 3 ¼ x 5 ¼ inches and include 262, 238 & 237 pages respectively and were published by Gerrsih & Tyler of Exeter (presumably New Hampshire?), dated 1826. Condition: Given their age (200 years-old), you will not be surprised that I would characterize them as being in good condition. The boards are bumped and rubbed and the leather spines are dry and brittle with some cracking but no real loss. Each of the books has the bookplate of its former owners on the front endpaper and two of them also have an inked name of another member of the same family. All of the volumes have some darkening of the pages and random light soiling and foxing (but not much of the latter). There are no places where the ageing process has obscured the legibility of the text. Some of the hinges are cracked but others not and the bindings still seem tight and sound. These books are not ex-library or remainders.
