About this Item

Description:

340 p. 18 cm. Frontispiece. Full leather bidnign with red title label on spine. Spine bumped top and bottom, hinges torn. Scuffing. Corners bumped. Label residue on front pastedown. Owner's signature from 1800 on title page. Inside pages have only occasional spotting, otherwise clean and unmarked. Berquin's stories were somewhat different from other children's stories, being written for the family to read together. They depicted family life as he thought it should be, and he is credited with being one of the main defenders of what has became known, almost two centuries later, as the nuclear family.
