Sewn in original printed wraps. Covers edge-tattered. Previous owner's name in pencil at top of front cover. Little bit of soiling. Illustrations. 30 pages [pp. 73-104]. 7.5 x 5.75 inches. Publisher and editor of The Children's Hour, Timothy Shay Arthur (1809-1885), was a popular nineteenth century American author who also published Arthur's Home Magazine and contributed several stories to the monthly periodical Godey's Lady's Book. He is additionally remembered for his temperance novel, Ten Nights in a Bar-Room and What I Saw There. One of the other contributors is poet and writer, Hester A. Benedict Dickinson (1840-1921), a founder of the California Writers' Club and former president of the Pacific Coast Women's Press Association. Contents: The Little Soldier (Uncle Herbert, pseud. T.S.
