The Child's Religion: A Study of the Development of the Religious Sentiment

"The Child's Religion" is a seminal exploration of the spiritual and psychological development of children, written by the distinguished Swiss educator and psychologist Pierre Bovet. This insightful study delves into the origins and evolution of religious sentiment, tracing its growth from early childhood through the formative years. Bovet applies rigorous psychological observation to understand how children internalize concepts of the divine, the nature of prayer, and the development of moral consciousness.

As a key figure in the Jean-Jacques Rousseau Institute, Bovet offers a unique perspective that bridges the gap between scientific psychology and religious education. The work examines the influence of family life, social environment, and innate curiosity on a child's spiritual path. By analyzing the spontaneous expressions of faith found in children, Bovet provides educators and parents with a deeper understanding of the child's inner life. This classic text remains a significant contribution to the fields of developmental psychology and the philosophy of religion, offering timeless insights into the pedagogical challenges of nurturing religious thought in the young.
