Scarce title. Stated "First printed 1956," no other printings stated, but there are reviews on DJ. Partial pieces of DJ are glued to front board and inside cover. This was circulated at a theater in Australia (Balwyn) and has an "M" on spine, sticker from Balwyn Book Club on front end paper (plus prior owner name), Balwyn stamps inside in several places, and extensive writing on rear end papers, see photos. Book shows rubbing wear on spine, edges and corners and has light spine lean. Interior pages are mostly good but there are a number of brown spots, light foxing on a few pages, and one tear observed. Mass Market Paperback. Condition: Good. First Edition. Ballantine Mystery Paperback Original U2159. First US edition. Originally published in hard covers in the UK by Hodder in 1956 as The China Roundabout. Edge and surface wear to the covers with some browning to the rear cover along the right side. Edge rubbing to the spine. Insides of covers browned. Small dark mark on the top edges of the pages. Pages browned with a three inch long half inch wide stain affecting the bottom of the first page with this stain gradually diminishing in size through the first half of the book. The first page also has an ink stamp on it - some sort of furry animals - but the pages are otherwise unmarked. First printing. Postage charge will be reduced by £1.50 when the order is processed. Josephine Bell was the pseudonym of Doris Bell Collier, an English physician and writer, famous for her nineteen novels and forty-five mystery novels. In a cloth binding with original unclipped dustwrapper. Externally, very smart. Light rubbing to extremities. Dustwrapper sound with handling marks, chipping and slight loss to the head and tail of the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and generally clean. Very Good Indeed. book.
