The Chinese Reader

Unlock reading fluency through the timeless power of narrative.

The Chinese Reader: 21 Essential Bible Stories provides a seamless and immersive path to language mastery. By pairing the classical 1919 Chinese Union Version with a precise word for word English gloss and Mandarin Pinyin, this edition bridges the gap between study and true fluency. You can engage with the text immediately, absorbing vocabulary and grammar naturally without the constant, frustrating interruption of dictionary searches.

What you will find inside this volume:

• The Interlinear Method: Each page features text in three distinct rows: the original Chinese characters, Pinyin for pronunciation, and English gloss for literal understanding.

• 21 Foundational Stories: Journey through essential narratives from the Chinese Union Version that have shaped modern Chinese literature.

• Visual Context: Each story is beautifully illustrated with historical engravings by Gustave Doré, adding a layer of depth and aesthetic beauty to your study.

• Linguistic Architecture: Learn not just what a sentence means, but how the language is built, as you observe the unique syntax, rhythm, and logic of the Chinese language in its original form.

Designed as a permanent scaffold for self instruction, this collection transforms the challenge of learning a complex language into a rewarding experience. Whether you are a dedicated student of Mandarin or a lover of canonical literature, The Chinese Reader provides the clear and measured guidance necessary to navigate the text with confidence. Begin your journey toward fluency one line at a time.
