తెలుగు సాహిత్యంలో క్రైమ్ కథలు రాసే రచయితలు చాలా తక్కువ. అపరాధ పరిశోధన, డిటెక్టివ్, పత్తేదార్ వంటి పత్రికలు వచ్చే రోజుల్లో డిటెక్టివ్ కథలు విరివిగా వచ్చేవి. తెలుగు పాఠకులు పెరగడానికి ఇవి దోహదం చేసాయి. ఎందుకో తెలియదు కాని క్రైమ్ కథల్ని సాహిత్యంగా పరిగణించకపోవడం ఉంది. దానికి కారణం క్రైమ్ కథ రాయడం అంత తేలిక కాకపోవడమేఅని నా భావన. ఈ కథల్లో ఒక్క పదం తప్పు రాసినా కథ తేలిపోతుంది. పక్కింటివాడిది, ఎదురింటివాడిది కథగా రాస్తే ఎలాంటి ఇబ్బంది లేదు. వాక్యం రాయడం రాకపోయినా చెల్లుబాటు అవుతుంది. కాని క్రైమ్ కథ అలా కాదు. ప్రారంభం నుంచి ముగింపు వరకూ ఒళ్ళు దగ్గర పెట్టుకుని రాయాలి.ప్రత్యేకంగా తెలుగులో క్రైమ్ కథలు రాస్తూ, వాటిని సంపుటిగా చిత్ర కథాకేళి పేరిట సంపుటిగా తీసుకు రావడం చాలా సాహసవంతమైన చర్యగా భావిస్తున్నాను. ఎందుకంటే, విదేశీ భాషల్లో వచ్చిన క్రైమ్ కథల్ని తెలుగులో అనువదించి పుస్తకాలుగా ప్రచురించడం నాకు తెలుసు. ఈ పని మల్లాది ఎక్కువగా చేస్తున్నారు. కాని తెలుగులో క్రైమ్ కథలు రాసి వాటిని పుస్తకంగా తీసుకు రావడం అనేది ఒక్క కొయిలాడ రామ్మోహన్ రావు గారికే చెల్లిందని, ముఖ్యంగా మూఢనమ్మకాల మీద రాసిన కథలు రచయిత చిత్తశుద్ధికి తార్కాణం. అందుకు మంచి ఉదాహరణ కాళీ హోమం కథ. కథ రాస్తున్నప్పుడు సమాచారం ఏ మేరకు ఎక్కడ ఎంత ఇవ్వాలనేది రచయితకు కొంత అభ్యాసంతో వచ్చే విద్య. అది నేర్చుకోవడం రచయిత బాధ్యత. మరింత కృషి చేస్తే ఇతను తెలుగులో తిరుగులేని రచయితగా గుర్తింపు పొందుతాడని నమ్ముతూ, ఈ సంపుటిలోని కథలు పాఠకుడ్ని నిరాశకి గురిచెయ్యవని అనుకుంటున్నాను.
