A small note by Reverend Nathaniel Huntting to title page: "Nathl Huntting / Ex dono Authoris / June 1747."Benjamin Colman (1673 - 1747) was a Harvard graduate and one of the most prominent religious figures of his generation. He would become Pastor of the Brattle Street Church in 1699 and would continue for 48 years, until his death. Colman was an avid proponent of reforming the Congregational Church. He also known to have coordinated many missionary trips among the Native Americans. His current sermon was delivered at the ordination of Samuel Cooper (1725 - 1783) - a Congregational minister, co-founder of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and pastor of the Brattle Street Church after the death of Benjamin Colman - from 1747 until 1783.
