Chris the Crocodile & the Disappearing Swamp (Paperback or Softback)

Meet Chris the Crocodile: Chris is a young Nile crocodile living along the Olifants River in South Africa. Like all crocodiles, he’s an incredible swimmer, a stealthy hunter, and has been around since the time of the dinosaurs! But Chris still has a lot to learn about how the river he depends on is changing — and what that means for him and his friends. When his peaceful swamp home begins to dry up, Chris discovers how human changes — like a dam — can impact the wild. With the help of Windy the Owl and Camilla the Crocodile, Chris learns about resilience, finding new beginnings, and the importance of protecting wetland habitats for all creatures, big and small.

With engaging storytelling, fun facts about Nile crocodiles, and important lessons on water conservation and habitat protection, this book teaches young readers (ages 5-9) about environmental stewardship. It’s a part of the Nourish Education Series—a collection of conservation-themed stories co-created with the Green Kidz of Nourish Eco Village, South Africa. Join Chris as he explores the vital connections between nature, resilience, and the need to protect our planet.

This beautifully illustrated book inspires empathy and curiosity while fostering an understanding of how our actions can impact the world around us. Perfect for young readers who love animals and adventure, this story encourages them to think critically about the environment and the importance of taking care of our natural resources.

That love grew into a mission. Her first children's book Chris the Crocodile and the Disappearing Swamp is a delightful first in a series of stories to help youth understand the joys and challenges that are faced by wildlife. Helping to imagine the world they're living in, the consequences of our actions and the importance of respecting and protecting it.Today, Sarah is the founder of Nourish Eco Village, a nonprofit that works to reduce poverty, empower youth, and protect the environment through education and creativity.
