Christ Rejected: Or, The Trial Of The Eleven Disciples Of Christ In A Court Of Law And Equity, As Charged With Stealing The Crucified Body Of Christ Out Of The Sepulchre — John Hewson. This satirical religious tract reimagines the trial of Jesus's followers and the events surrounding the Resurrection as a courtroom drama staged in a grand Areopagus court. Through Balaam the Jew and Captain Onesimus, the narrative critiques Deism and modern infidelity while defending Christian claims about immortality and the resurrection. The work includes allegorical plates and a sequence of letters and banners that lampoon philosophers such as Hume, Gibbon, Voltaire, and Paine, using legal rhetoric to examine truth, justice, and the power of belief. Originally published in 1834, this edition offers the same provocative critique of faith and reason.
