Christianity Distinct From The Religion Of Nature, In Answer To A Late Book, Entitled, Christianity As Old As The Creation, &C. Part. I.: Being An Examination Of The Author's General Hypothesis, That Natural And Reveal'D Religion Differ Only In The Manner Of Their Being Communicated by Thomas Broughton is a 1732 polemical work that critically evaluates the claim that natural and revealed religion differ only in their communication. Broughton argues that revealed Christianity is not merely an extension of natural religion, asserting that divine revelation provides distinct duties, sanctions, and motives beyond what unassisted reason can offer. This treatise explores the compatibility of natural law with revealed truth, exposes inconsistencies in reducing Christianity to the Law of Nature, and employs a dialogue-like critique and rigorous argumentation to test the author’s hypothesis. The 2019 edition reproduces the original text and includes prefatory and appendix material discussing the implications for Christian apologetics.
