First edition thus, part of the publisher's "Standard Series". No date but the front free endpaper bears a small set of ownership initials and the date 1878 (note: OCLC, which located only four copies, attributes it to 1880). Hardcover in brick colored cloth decorated in black and with spine lettering in gilt. 270 pp.plus 6 pp. publisher's ads at rear. Illustrated title page bearing a drawing of a happy-looking Christmas pudding. Illustrated with full page black and white line drawings; of the 16 plates in the list of illustrations, only 15 are present; the plate of "Marley's Ghost" was apprently never bound in, at least not in this copy. Contains "A Chrismas Carol", "The Chimes", "The Cricket On The Hearth", "The Battle Of Life", and "The Haunted Man". Good, some staining to the cloth particularly on the spine; the light gray front free endpaper is lacking so that the first blank (bearing the 1878 handwritten date) is the leaf after the front board.
