The Chronicle of Florence of Worcester: With the Two Continuations; Comprising Annals of English History, from the Departure of the Romans to the Reign of Edward I

The Chronicle Of Florence of Worcester: With The Two Continuations; Comprising Annals Of English History, From The Departure Of The Romans To The Reign Of Edward I by Florence of Worcester presents a comprehensive medieval chronicle that records political, ecclesiastical, and military history in England and its borderlands from late antiquity through the late 13th century. Drawing on Marianus Scotus, Bede, the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle, and hagiographical sources, the core text is augmented by continuations attributed to John of Worcester and John de Taxter, and accompanied by lists of popes and English bishops. The work situates the reign of Edward I within a broad European context, detailing the conquest and governance of Wales, diplomacy with Scotland and the Continent, the development of royal finance and taxation, and the reform of church institutions. It also records notable disasters, omens, and miracles within a chronicle framework that blends annalistic history with ecclesiastical and dynastic information. The edition presents Florence's additions alongside critical editorial notes on sources and transmission, making it a foundational reference for medieval English history.
