Volumes I and II. Translated from the French by Thomas Johnes. Green-beige hardcover with titles on spine in fading gold on green background. Pages are gold on top, other edges rough cut. Binding is tight in both volumes. Text is clean and bright. Books are ex libris, previous owner's names in pink pencil inside front cover, library stamp on ffep. Faded Library stickers on spines. Volume I Frontispiece “La Cigales Revenge” captioned in red on the tissue guard: “ Photogravure from the original painting by F. Bauer, exhibited in the Paris Salon of 1900.” Volume I has 425 pages. Tissue guard was stuck to the title page at some point but is now free. Volume II has 230 pages. The frontispiece is “The Storm” captioned in red on the tissue guard. “Photogravure from the original painting by Pierre Auguste Cot, exhibited in the Paris Salon of 1880, and now in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York City.” These volumes are University Collection Author's Edition Limited to One Thousand Sets of which this is Number 721. The World's Great Classics Library Committee: Timothy Dwight, Justin McCarthy, Richard Henry Stoddard, Paul Van Dyke, Albert Ellery Bergh.
