A highly illustrated work detailing the churches of the Middle Ages, two volumes in one text. Dated from the University of Bristol Libraries. Highly illustrated throughout with 60 plates in volume one and 62 plates in volume two. Specimens of early, mid and late pointed structures from churches across the Middle Ages. Detailed lithographs and a well regarded high Victorian expression of Gothic Revivalism. Written by Henry Bowman, an English church architect and architectural historian, and Joseph Stretch Crowther, an English architect who practised in Manchester. From the library of Sir William Whitfield, one of the most important British architects of the 20th century. In a contemporary half red calf binding with red cloth boards. Externally, sound with bumping and rubbing to the extremities. The odd mark to the board. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean throughout. Very Good.
