Churchless Christianity (Map)

A report of research among non-baptised believers in Christ in rural and urban Tamilnadu, India, with practical and theological reflections.

The purpose of this book is to describe a fact and reflect upon it theologically. The fact is, there are thousands of people who believe solely in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior but who have no plans to be baptized or to join the local church.

Churchless Christianity is based on research from the early 1980s among non-baptized believers in Christ in Tamil Nadu, India. This revised edition includes all the original text plus five additional chapters and a new foreword.

Rev. Dr. Herbert Hoefer was born in Oticago, USA, in 1941. He married Carol ( Clocter) in 1967, and they have been blessed with three daughters - two of them born in India. Rev. Hoefer received his M.Div. degree from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, in 1967 and his STM in 1973. He studied at Columbia University on furloughs and received the Ed.D. degree in 1979. He is the author of "Teacher as Parent" (also translated into Malayalam and Telugu), "Gospel Preaching," "Church-State-Society" and editor of several books including "Debale on Mission" and "Christian An in India." In recent years, he has published several articles on mis-sion, particularly issues of faith and culture in the Indian context.
