This volume explores a range of current problems faced by cities in Germany and England while reflecting on constructive strategies for enhancing the quality of life for the citizens of twenty-first century urban environments. The chapters of the book are based on papers given at a symposium organized by the Universities of Bristol and Hannover in 1997 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of twinning between the two cities.
