Giorgio � un facoltoso ingegnere meccanico che lavora e vive a Milano con la sua famiglia. La sua vita viene completamente stravolta quando il suo unico figlio, Alberto, un giovane promettente archeologo con la passione per la storia delle civilt� precolombiane, organizza una spedizione internazionale in Honduras, alla ricerca della leggendaria �Ciudad Blanca�, ovvero la Citt� Bianca, un sito archeologico oggetto di studi da parte di esploratori e archeologi sin dal XVI secolo ma mai trovato, risalente alla civilt� dei Maya. Dopo pochissimi giorni, per�, Giorgio e sua moglie Rita perdono i contatti con l’amato figlio. Le speranze di ritrovarlo vivo sembrano svanire quando, dopo giorni di ricerche e di angoscia, a Giorgio viene fatto recapitare, in ufficio, il pacco contenente la testa mozzata del figlio. La tragedia e la modalit� di esecuzione con cui � stato ucciso Alberto sconvolge la vita dei coniugi, tanto che Rita non regge al dolore della morte del figlio, suicidandosi. Rimasto solo nella sua disperazione, Giorgio medita vendetta per ci� che � successo alla sua famiglia e, dubitando della risolutezza delle indagini da parte delle autorit� honduregne, parte per l’Honduras in compagnia di un altro padre a cui � stato ucciso il figlio. Arrivati in Mosquitia, i due italiani scopriranno verit� sconcertanti sull’uccisione brutale dei loro figli e sulla corruzione e l’avidit� che vige in quelle terre. Ma, soprattutto, a Giorgio si apriranno le porte di un mondo nascosto e completamente diverso da quello a cui � abituato, un mondo primordiale e sconosciuto alla realt� contemporanea, popolato da indigeni umanoidi, esseri vigorosi e prorompenti che accoglieranno Giorgio come uno di loro, facendogli ritrovare la felicit� perduta.
