Civil War Battlefields: A Touring Guide

Describes the historical background of twelve Civil War battlefields, including Chickamauga, Gettysburg, Shiloh, and Vicksburg

Civil War historian Eicher has produced perhaps the most comprehensive tourist guide to major battle sites?a book that deserves a place on school and public library shelves. Students doing research on the Civil War will have as much enjoyment from this book as the vacationer planning a trip to visit the battlefields in person. More than 40 separate battles are described in detail, along with tourist amenities (if available) and suggestions on getting off the main roads and exploring on your own. The Civil War remains a hot item in most public and school libraries, and this book will be a welcome addition to everyone's collection.?Joseph L. Carlson, Vandenberg Air Force Base Lib., Cal.
