EMMA AMOS (1937-2020) was an enormously talented post-modern painter known for critically treating issues of racism and sexism in often-autobiographical work that combines figurative painting, textiles, and printmaking. She was a member of the pioneering African-American collective, Spiral, and of the feminist groups Heresies and Guerilla Girls. Contains nearly 40 black and white illustrations, 274 pp, New York: Charles Scribner’s Sons, 1948. Later edition. First edition was 1938. Blue cloth. With inscription from Emma’s Aunt Vee: “To Emma Happy Birthday Aunt Vee” The book contains dozens of recipes for deserts, candy, meats, vegetables sauces, soups, drinks. Some fading to the spine.
