About the Authors

Debra Scala Giokas is the author of the picture book CLAIRE: THE LITTLE GIRL WHO CLIMBED TO THE TOP AND CHANGED THE WAY WOMEN DRESS, the true story of fashion icon Claire McCardell. Debra loves clothes almost as much as words. A marketing communications professional, she earned a B.A. in English from Stony Brook University and is a member of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators. Mary Ryan Reeves is the illustrator of CLAIRE: THE LITTLE GIRL WHO CLIMBED TO THE TOP AND CHANGED THE WAY WOMEN DRESS, the true story of fashion icon Claire McCardell. Mary always wanted to be a fashion designer. Her first job was as a model in Manhattan's Garment District. Mary graduated with a B.A. in Art Education from Hood College in Frederick, Maryland, Claire McCardell's alma mater and hometown. She raised a family and taught art for 37 years. Now retired, Mary has more time to devote to her artistic interests and to contribute her award-winning talents to local community endeavors including The Claire McCardell Project.
