A very scarce work, this volume being the second edition, published ten years after the first.One leaf of adverts to the front, and seven leaves of adverts to the rear.ESTC citation number N4994.Collated, complete.John Oldmixon's controversial attack on the historical works of Edward Hyde, the Earl of Clarendon. Oldmixon originally brought up his opinions against Clarendon in his 1724-1726 work 'Critical History of England', with the claims that Clarendon only provided satirical portraits of the parliamentary figures, and wrote from a biased royalist point of view.Amongst those who opposed Oldmixon's publication was Dr Zachary Grey; this volume is a direct reply to Grey in which Oldmixon defends himself. In a full calf binding. Externally, rubbed. Front joint is starting but firm, rear joint is a little cracked to the tail. Loss to the head and tail of the spine, bumping to the extremities resulting in some loss of leather. Marks and a little discolouration to the boards and spine. Hinges are starting a little but remain firm. Spots to the endpapers. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are lightly age-toned and generally clean with some scattered spots. Good.
