About the Author: Carl von Clausewitz (1780-1831) was a Prussian general, military theorist, and one of the most important thinkers in the history of military strategy. Born in Burg bei Magdeburg, Prussia, he entered military service at a young age and participated in the Napoleonic Wars, experiences that profoundly shaped his understanding of war and leadership. He later served as director of the Prussian Military Academy and played a major role in reforming Prussian military institutions.Clausewitz spent much of his life studying the nature of warfare and attempting to develop a comprehensive theory explaining how wars begin, unfold, and end. His unfinished masterpiece, On War, was compiled and published after his death by his wife, Marie von Clausewitz.
