Clavis Universalis; or, A New Inquiry after Truth, Being a Demonstration of the NonExistence, or Impossibility, of an External World

Can everything you see, touch, and experience truly be called reality? Clavis Universalis; or, A New Inquiry after Truth by Arthur Collier is one of the most daring philosophical works ever written. First published in 1713, this remarkable classic invites readers to question assumptions so deeply rooted that they often go unnoticed. Rather than accepting the visible world at face value, Collier carefully examines the nature of existence, perception, certainty, and truth through a series of logical arguments that continue to inspire philosophical discussion centuries later. The book begins by introducing its central inquiry before guiding readers through a carefully structured exploration of whether the world we perceive possesses an independent existence. Each chapter develops the discussion with thoughtful reasoning, addressing common objections while encouraging readers to examine the foundations of knowledge itself. The later sections present a sequence of arguments that deepen the investigation before concluding with reflections on the broader meaning and consequences of the entire philosophical journey. Unlike books that simply present opinions, Clavis Universalis teaches readers how to think critically. It encourages intellectual curiosity, logical analysis, and the courage to question accepted beliefs. Whether you are interested in philosophy, metaphysics, epistemology, theology, or the history of ideas, this timeless work offers insights that remain surprisingly relevant in today's world of virtual realities, digital identities, and evolving concepts of truth. This carefully presented edition is ideal for students, researchers, philosophy enthusiasts, and thoughtful readers seeking enduring intellectual classics. More than a historical text, it is an invitation to engage with profound questions that continue to shape modern philosophy and deepen our understanding of human consciousness. If you enjoy books that challenge conventional thinking, sharpen reasoning, and expand your perspective on reality itself, this enduring philosophical masterpiece deserves a place in your library.
