Cleaning Out the Closet: Sorting Through What You've Carried to Discover Who You Are

What if you looked at your life one day and realized you weren’t entirely sure who you were anymore?

Not because everything had fallen apart. Not because you needed to run away and start over. But because somewhere along the way, your experiences, relationships, and mistakes had become tangled up with other people’s words, opinions, and expectations until it became difficult to tell what actually belonged to you.

Cleaning Out the Closet is about sorting through what you’ve carried.

With honesty, humor, faith, and the perspective that comes from actually doing the work, Joelle E. Smith explores the beliefs and labels we accumulate, the difference between feelings and facts, what is ours to own and what was never ours to carry, healthier boundaries, discernment, and the courage to let other people into our lives without losing ourselves in the process.

This isn’t about blaming the people who put things in your closet. It isn’t about throwing away everything that hurts. And it certainly isn’t about disappearing from your real life until you magically find yourself.

It’s about learning what belongs, letting go of what doesn’t, taking responsibility for what does, and discovering who you are as you continue becoming.

Because the goal isn’t to spend the rest of your life cleaning out the closet.

The goal is to get out of it and live.
